looking for rules for D&D 3.5

Postby THE GOOCH on Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:07 am

I’m looking for rules for D&D 3.5 if possible, if not, what have people used in there games.

I’m looking to have a drinking competition in game. Anyone know of any rules for drunkenness in game. I assume it’s con based.

This probably works along the same line but. Has anyone see rules on sleep deprivation? I have an idea for a magic sword that is really powerful but talks so much that the owner of the sword can never sleep.

I used to be friends with this guy we called "The Gooch," way back in grade school.

Then I found out, decades later, that he works for the same university that I do!

I don't think there are any "core" rules on drinking, specifically, but you can check out the various Conditions and see if there's anything in there that could mirror being drunk. I'm thinking "Exhausted" or "Fatigued" might fit. Look here...

Again, check the rules on the Exhausted and Fatigued Conditions on that page I linked you to. Scroll down to the Conditions section to find them.

I belive there are some rules under the alcohols section in Arms and Equipment. It is 3.0, but most of the stuff is fine. It can be a handy book.

Pop over to ENWorld and look at the new status cards they have. They include 7 layers of drunkness, as well as what the effects of that level of drunkness provides.

What they don't provide is how you progress, but I would think it could be a fortitude save based on the strength of the brew.

My personal Drinking rules

Postby evilninjamonkey on Tue Sep 05, 2006 12:16 pm

I'm a fan of giving players a negative 1 mod to all dex based checks for every two drinks saves, and a +1 to all constitution based saves or, if they so wish, they can attempt a fortitude save with a DC of 10+number of drinks+

1 for beer
1 for wine
2 for fortified wine
3 for mild liquor (brandy, schnappes)
4 for hard liquor

If they succeed they get no effects, if they fail, they only get the negative to their dex.
I roll a natural 1 every day when I get up. From there it just goes downhill. Hell, I rolled a natural 1 at life. with a negative 2 modifier and then rolled a 1 on the fumble table

Well, as a base rule, I've always used straight con to decide who wins, but then there are those who hold their own better (ones with high fort saves).

Generally, they make opposed fort saves, against DC 15. The higher save wins, but whoever doesn't get the DC gets 1d6 damage to all scores for the rest of the night. The loser is always assumed to have gotten drunk enough to lose the save versus the DC.
